In our previous piece on scale repairs, we discussed the importance of regular calibration. Having a regular maintenance schedule can avoid costly mishaps and downtime. If you don’t have a set plan in place, and are wondering if your scales are in need of service, here are some of the top signs it’s time to schedule your scale maintenance:

Inconsistent Readings

If you have certain items that you weigh on a routine basis (daily, weekly, etc.), and notice a sudden discrepancy in your readings, this could be a sign that your scale is in need of repair or service and may require closer inspection by one of our technicians. Especially if it’s been a while since your last calibration, or if you’ve recently used that scale to handle a heavier than usual load (read: how to prevent shock loading).

Inaccurate Readings Between Scales

As with above, if items that you regularly weigh are suddenly getting different readings between units, you have a solid case to seek further evaluation. Note that you’ll want to generally to have your units inspected at the same time, so as to ensure a uniform approach and to avoid further complications in the long run.

Unstable/Incomplete Readings

If your scales are struggling to provide a complete reading, or is giving you an error message, this is a definite sign that maintenance is overdue. You’ll want to book a service call as soon as possible to avoid putting your loads at risk.

Visible Signs of Damage

Visible signs of corrosion, warping, or damaged displays are all indications that your unit needs to be serviced. Even if your readings are still accurate, physical stress on the unit will lead to failures in the future, so it’s best to seek out repair as soon as possible.
